Why Castor Oil Packs Are your Hashimotos Best Friend
Castor oil packs are an amazing healing modality that been around for a very long time that may help with many of your unwanted Hashimotos symptoms.
Your liver is a very important organ when it comes to Hashimotos Disease because it’s where the inactive form of T4 gets converted into T3 (hello thyroid health!). Your liver also helps support your hormones, and digestion.
Due to all the toxins we are exposed to in today’s world (food and environmental), our bodies simply cannot keep up the demand and this puts a damper on our precious liver.
Your liver is a drainage pathway in the body which means that if it’s not being supported, it can result in a host of unwanted symptoms.
Here is a list of common signs that your liver may need some love:
Digestive challenges (bloating, constipation etc.)
Hormonal issues (irregular or heavy periods, low libido)
You consistently wake up between 1-4am
You have an imbalance in T4 an T3
You have rashes, acne, fatigue, and brain fog
Castor oil in itself has many benefits and can be used in different ways (including on your thyroid itself — can be great for reducing inflammation of nodules and/or goiters). —Click link below for all the different types of packs available. —
Some other benefits include:
Reduces inflammation
Improves digestion
Eliminates toxins
Improves sleep and stress
Supports bowel movements
Supports liver and thyroid health
I recommend the Queen of Thrones Castor Oil pack (use code: “Hashimotos 10” for 10% off) because it comes with:
Organic hexane-free Castor oil
A heatless cotton pack
I’ve loved this pack because it has everything you need in one pack (where other packs require a heating pad and can be messy!)
FAQ:
How does the castor oil pack work?
The castor oil and the heatless pack penetrate into your skin and support your liver and digestive tract. (You may even hear some gurgling— it’s normal and a sign that things are flowing!)
How often should I use it?
For optimal results, you want to aim to use it as often as your schedule allows and for at least one hour. I wear mine while I do a coffee enema so I kill two birds with one stone. I recommend attaching it with an activity you already do as a part of your normal routine. Examples of this could be: before watching your favorite Netflix show, after you brush your teeth before going to bed, or any other routine that makes it easy for you to remember to wear it. The nice part about it is that it ties onto your body so you can multi-task around the house and still wear it. (I do recommend relaxing as much as possible with it on though!)
What have I personally noticed since using it?
Since incorporating the Queen of Thrones Castor Oil Pack, I have more regular bowel movements, less bloating. and just over-all feel less inflamed.
Can I use this while pregnant?
No, Castor oil packs are not to be used while pregnant. Epsom salt baths may be a safer option during pregnancy.
Does the castor oil stain?
It does. Make sure to wear an old t-shirt and pour the oil on the pack with a towel underneath. If you sleep with it on, just be mindful of your sheets. I personally have worn it to bed with white sheets and I luckily have not have anything stain. This pack is not as messy as others and ties to your body, so it’s less likely it gets anywhere else, but always do what you feel most comfortable with!
How long does it last? Do I need to wash it?
A pack lasts about 2 months (even longer if you store it in the baggy it came in). For washing, watch this video on how-to.
What steps do I take to use it?
Pour castor oil on the pack (with a towel underneath)
Tie the pack to your body over your liver (under your right rib cage)
Wait an hour
Take off and Wash off
All in all, castor oil packs are a great healing tool to add to your Hashimotos inflammation toolbox that can address two drainage pathways at once (colon and liver). I’d say that’s a win-win!
Sending you so much love, healing and HOPE.
Hugs,
Allison
