11 Ways to Support your Hashimotos Drainage Pathways

In today’s toxic world we are bombarded by environmental toxins and our poor bodies just cannot keep up with all of them. This can perpetuate a host of unwanted symptoms (hello brain fog and fatigue!)

Picture your body like a clogged pipe. When it’s exposed to all of the toxins like mold, heavy metals, and other environmental toxins, it gets clogged, bogged down and is not able to function and give us the energy, mental clarity, and relief we need.

Meet your drainage pathways: Your brain, digestive tract, liver and bile ducts, lymphatic system, kidneys, lungs, and your cells.

When these get bogged down with toxins, the toxins have no where to go, but get stuck in these areas of our bodies and will make their way out through symptoms.

When looking at the drainage funnel image to the right, we want to start with the bottom of the funnel and work our way up to ensure the body is systematically supported.

Here are some signs your drainage pathways need some love:

  • Brain fog

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Swollen lymph nodes and/or glands

  • Sore or swollen breast tissue

  • You wake up between 1-4am

  • You have rashes, acne, eczema

  • Mood challenges (anxiety/depression)

  • Your skin doesn’t sweat

  • Constipation

  • Puffy eyes

If you said yes to many or even all of these, you’re not alone. It’s very common that many of us with Hashimotos have poor drainage pathways.

The good news is, there is a lot we can do to keep these in check.

Here are 11 tools to support your drainage pathways:

Use code: “ALLISONRASSP” for 10% off

  1. Eat Anti-Inflammatory Foods:

Good quality animal protein, healthy fats, and a variety of fruits and vegetables at every meal. For food support, download The Hashimotos Inflammation Bundle.

  2. Castor oil packs | 10% off with code: ALLISONRASSP

Your liver is where the inactive form of T4 converts into the active form of T3. Castor oil packs are great for supporting the liver pathway, supporting bowel movements, and hormone health. 10% off Queen of Thrones Castor Oil Packs with code: ALLISONRASSP.

  3. Epsom salt baths:

In today’s stressful world we are all deficient in magnesium and cannot always get it through our food and supplementation. Soaking in Epsom salt for 20 minutes a few days a week allows absorption through the skin and can help alleviate rashes and stress.

  4. Have 1-3 bowel movements a day:

What doesn’t come out of your bowels will surface as skin issues, bloating, and more. If you struggle to do this on your own, I recommend focusing on supporting your liver pathway to get things moving. Castor oil packs (code: ALLISONRASSP) or magnesium lotion (code: Hashimotos10) on the belly are a few easy ways to support bowel motility. Learn more tools for constipation relief here.

  5. Get adequate sleep:

Aim for 7-8 hours per night and in bed ideally by 10:00pm

  6. Phototherapy Patches

The aeon phototherapy patch is an anti-inflammatory, anti-stress, happy patch. It raises Antineoplastons (a peptide that is known to be used as an alternative to cancer treatments).

It is brain balancing and calming, reduces cortisol and creactive proteins, and elevates DHEA. It balances our autonomic nervous system: heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and respiration. The Aeon patch signals the body to make more of a substance in the liver called phenyl acetyl glutamine that activates many antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways. Learn more about phototherapy patches here.

  7. Sweat in an infrared sauna | 10% off with code: Rassp10

This helps push out toxins through your skin pathway. Aka— sweating. The infrared sauna is great for reducing inflammation, alleviating skin challenges, and more. I recommend a low EMF sauna (code: Rassp10) to avoid adding more toxins the the body. Read more about benefits of an infrared sauna for Hashimotos and best practices for using an infrared sauna here.

  8. Dry brushing:

When your lymphatic system gets bogged down by daily environmental toxins, it can cause puffiness, weight gain, cellulite and more. Using a brush like this one in an upward motion towards your heart helps move toxins out of the lymphatic system decreasing inflammation, cellulite, and more.

  9. Hydration

Staying hydrated with filtered water free of thyroid and hormone containing toxins like fluoride, chlorine, nitrates, and more is important to keep all pathways working. I also recommend adding minerals and electrolytes to your filtered water for optimal hydration and additional liver support.

  10. Coffee Enemas | 10% off with code: Hashimotos10

These are amazing to support bowel movements, liver health, and support your nervous system. They can seem intimidating, but you get more comfortable with each use and start to feel really good! Read more about how to use them here.

11. Supplementation

Supporting the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system and the cells can be helpful to support thyroid health, hormones, your metabolism, and much more. A few of my favorites include:

  • Drainage Activator | Practitioner code: ZQsSzqKL — This supports the liver, lymphatic system, immune system, and extracellular matrix pathways.

  • KL Support | Practitioner code: ZQsSzqKL— This supports the kidney and liver and bile duct pathways

  • Advanced TUDCA | Practitioner code: ZQsSzqKL— This supports the liver pathway and can be helpful for lowering elevated liver enzymes or supporting non-alcoholic fatty liver issues.

If you’ve done or tried any of these, you’re doing amazing at supporting your drainage pathways!

Like anything else with health, supporting drainage pathways involves consistency.

Choosing the ones that feel good for your body and making a routine out of it can set you up for long term relief!

For me personally, supporting my drainage pathways has helped alleviate many of my symptoms throughout my own Hashimtos journey. My cystic acne started to clear and I started to feel more mental clarity.
